In order to accurately diagnose most sleep disorders, an overnight sleep study is needed. By looking at data including oxygen levels, heart rate, eye movement, and brain wave patterns, we are able to see any interruptions in your sleep and recognize what caused these disturbances.
A sleep study is a completely painless procedure. In fact, you’ll sleep right through it!
The Sleep Study Experience
You may be anxious about what your sleep study experience will be like. We like to tell our patients that a sleep study is part doctor’s visit and part hotel visit. A sleep study is conducted overnight, and begins in the late evening and ends the next morning before 7 AM. There is no need to take time off work for a sleep study.
You will arrive in the evening and be greeted by one of our excellent technicians who will guide you through the process step by step. After filling out any necessary paperwork, you will proceed to the hook-up room and have sensors placed on your head, face, body, and legs. All of the sensors are designed to be as comfortable as possible and wired are neatly tucked out o the way. This will allow you to move around in bed virtually as freely as home. While you sleep, the testing software will monitor your brain wave patterns, eye movement, heart rate, oxygen level and snoring. The technician is only moments away from your room and will be able to come in when called for, at all hours of the night. In the morning, all sensors will be removed and you will be able to go home or to work. Atlas Diagnostic Services provides patients with shower facilities if they would like to take a shower in the morning. The results of the tests will be sent to your referring physician within 48 hours of your study.
